Kevin Hsieh, M.D. is already both an accomplished neurosurgeon in his young professional career, but also brings many other talents and a warm sense of humor to Piedmont Physicians Neurosurgery. Dr. Hsieh first received his undergraduate degree from University of California Berkeley where he majored in molecular cell biology with an emphasis in neurobiology and minored in music. During this time, Dr. Hsieh was part of the university’s honors research programs in neurophysiology and neuroscience.
Following his education in California, which is his home state as he was raised just outside of Los Angeles in southern California, Dr. Hsieh attended Vanderbilt University where he received his medical degree. At Vanderbilt, Dr. Hsieh was involved in a research project on functional MRI and localization of brain functions and participated in medical relief trips to Venezuela and Kenya. He completed his neurosurgery residency at New York University Hospitals and was a chief resident at Bellevue Hospital and the VA Hospital in Manhattan. During his residency, he became immersed in minimally invasive spinal surgery, disc replacement technology and complex spinal surgery. He also spent significant research time reporting the surgical outcomes of the largest pediatric series of craniopharyngiomas, and the use of gamma knife radiosurgery in brain metastases of melanoma.
Dr. Hsieh spent much of his youth learning violin and piano, and has performed throughout the United States and Europe. He continues to enjoy playing the two instruments in his spare time, as well as skiing, running, attending sporting events, and attempting to learn golf.
Dr. Hsieh is a firm believer that there is no substitute for quality time and careful decision-making with each of his patients. He is accepting new patients, and most insurance plans.
